JOB DESCRIPTION
On-Site AI Build Engineer (Contractor)
The Role
AI Guys is a new go-to-market motion: an experienced software engineer drives to a local Central Florida business, observes their workflow for 30 minutes, then uses AI tooling (Cursor, Claude, modern AI APIs) to build them working custom software live, in 2-3 hours. At the end of the session you do the Unplug Conversation — the honest tech-truth pitch about what it takes to keep the thing running. If they say yes, hosting flips on before you get to your car. If they say no, you email them the source code zip from the road. You'd be the engineer who runs that whole arc.
What You'll Do
- Drive to a small business in Central Florida (~30 min from your home base)
- Spend the first 30 minutes watching how their team really works
- Identify the most painful repetitive task they do every day
- Open Cursor / Claude / Vercel and build working custom software around that task, running locally on your laptop
- Demo it on their real data before you pack up
- Do the Unplug Conversation — explain in nerd-truth terms why their new tool needs hosting, monitoring, API keys, and error handling to keep running. Offer them AI Guys Managed Hosting on the spot ($299/mo flat)
- Log the session and conversion outcome in our platform within 24 hours
Compensation — Per Visit
- $400 per completed session — paid via direct deposit after the source-code .zip is delivered to our platform
- $200 production bonus — when the customer activates their Managed Hosting plan within 72 hours of the session. Includes a one-hour remote stabilization pass to clean up obvious bugs. Total $600 for a converted visit.
- 50/50 split on iteration sessions — when an existing customer needs a new tool or rush build beyond their flat-fee allocation, you get 50% of whatever the customer pays for that session
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS rate for round-trip distance over 30 miles
Compensation — Realistic Monthly Ranges
Your monthly take depends on how many visits we book you. Schedule is gated by the lead flow we drive — paid social, partnerships, referrals. We're being honest about this up front.
- Month 1-2 (ramping, ~2 visits/wk): roughly $4,000-$6,000/mo while we fill your calendar
- Month 3-6 (steady, ~4 visits/wk): roughly $8,000-$12,000/mo
- Month 6+ (aggressive scale, 6-8 visits/wk): roughly $12,000-$16,000/mo
- Plus iteration-session revenue from your existing customer roster — variable, compounds over time
We pay on completed outcomes, not activity. The conversion bonus exists because the Unplug Conversation is part of the job, not an afterthought.
Build Your Name While You Build Their Software
AI Guys contractors are encouraged to list AI Guys on their LinkedIn, résumé, and portfolio. You drove the laptop. You did the build. You earned the credit. The only thing we ask is that you don't name specific customers or post their proprietary materials publicly — that's standard NDA territory. Everything else — the role, the tooling, the wins — is yours to talk about.
Who You Are
- 5+ years writing production software (any stack)
- Comfortable shipping working code in 3 hours with AI as a force multiplier
- Can talk to a non-technical small business owner without sounding like an engineer
- Comfortable having the Unplug Conversation in plain English — not selling, just telling the truth about what software needs to run
- Have your own laptop, willing to drive to Central Florida 2-5 days/week
- Have (or willing to obtain) auto + general liability insurance
- Florida-based or willing to relocate
Who You're Not
- Recent bootcamp grad — we need real engineering judgment in front of customers
- Someone who's never shipped to production
- Hostile to AI tooling — Cursor, Claude, modern AI APIs are mandatory parts of the workflow
- Looking for a salaried W-2 job (this is 1099 contractor)
- Looking to use AI Guys customer relationships to build your own competing side business — our contractor agreement has a 24-month non-circumvention clause with real teeth
What This Isn't
- Not full-time employment (1099 contractors, IRS-compliant structure)
- Not remote (the in-person session is what we sell)
- Not consulting hourly (paid per completed session, with a conversion bonus on top)
- Not recurring visits per customer — one trip per customer, ever. Follow-on work is remote through our platform.
